"It's become an epidemic,"

Republican consultant David Johnson describing the 25 GOP House retirements announced this year. The all time record is 27 set in 1952.

The scandal plagued RNCC is bankrupt and now may owe millions in fines. Meanwhile the DNCC ended last year with $35M in cash on hand and raising money hand over fist.

No doubt some of these retirements are a natural byproduct of a Congressional realignment. Democrats experienced the same thing in the 90's. Now is as good a time as any to get out if you're a Republican while it's a good time to stay if you're Dem.
