ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 2 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was not subjected to a lengthy in-person background interview with the head of Sen. John McCain's vice presidential vetting team until last Wednesday in Arizona, the day before McCain asked her to be his running mate, and she did not disclose the fact that her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant until that meeting, two knowledgeable McCain officials acknowledged Tuesday.I've been convinced that Palin did not disclose her daughters situation until after she was chosen as the running mate, which appears not to be the case.
Who would throw a family into this kind of media scrutiny under these circumstances and who would want to take on that kind of side issue at a time when you want to maximize a positive message (at least for your candidate) to kick off the fall campaign?
